Ground has officially broken on a state-of-the-art trout production facility at the NSW Government’s Gaden Trout Hatchery at Jindabyne that will help futureproof the recreational trout fishery for years to come.
Funded by a $5 million investment from Snowy Hydro as part of the Snowy 2.0 project, the new hatchery infrastructure expansion will enable the production of “advanced” size trout fingerlings.
The build features a new 462sqm hatchery shed housing four advanced recirculating aquaculture systems.
These hi-tech units provide precise water temperature control and filtration, ensuring the faster production of larger, healthier fish for the Snowy Lakes and potentially other fisheries across NSW.
The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2026 and will complement the $9m Government invest in new hatchery and tourist centre upgrades at the popular Gaden site.
