As the weather warms and spring takes over from winter, many keen fishers will be heading to Sydney’s 40+ ferry wharves and piers to throw a line.
These locations offer some fantastic fishing opportunities, but it’s important to share these busy spaces safely and respectfully with commuters, ferry staff and other wharf users.
If you’re fishing from a wharf or pier, remember:
•  Be respectful and courteous to others
• Clear your lines when ferries are approaching or berthing
• Never clean fish on wharves
• Use a cutting board when preparing bait
• Look before you cast
• Take your rubbish home or place it in a bin — and if you see someone else’s rubbish, consider picking it up too
A little consideration goes a long way to ensuring Sydney’s wharves remain safe, enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
Thanks to all the responsible fishers who help show that recreational fishing is a safe, enjoyable pastime for people of all ages.
Fish responsibly. Share the space. Enjoy the fishing!
