The deployment of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) is complete across 34 locations between Tweed Heads and Eden, marking the start of an exciting summer fishing season.
FADs are GPS-tracked floating buoys anchored to the ocean floor that attract pelagic species, offering fishers a reliable spot for a better fishing experience, particularly those targeting the highly sought after dolphinfish!
FADs are positioned each year in summer and star in place until early winter, when they are retrieved for routine maintenance.
Fishers can download the FREE FishSmart app to find their nearest FAD, stay updated on locations and access responsible fishing tips. Fishers are also reminded to check the latest marine weather forecasts before heading offshore.
For more info, including the code of conduct for fishing the FAD’s, visit the DPIRD website here.
