Recreational fishers are reminded that the fishing seasons for Murray Cod and Murray Crayfish closed from Monday, 1 September 2025.
Murray Cod
Closed season: 1 September – 30 November 2025
Applies to inland waters
Exceptions: Fishing remains open year-round in Copeton Dam and Blowering Dam, as these stocked fisheries don’t require the seasonal closure.
The Murray Cod fishery undergoes a three-month seasonal closure each year to safeguard this iconic native species during their breeding period.
Murray Crayfish
Closed season: 1 September 2025 – 1 June 2026
Can only be legally harvested between 1 June – 31 August each year from designated sections of the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers
The seasonal closure plays a vital role in protecting these vulnerable species and ensures their ongoing survival.
