Just reaching out to let you know the seventh $10,000 tagged barramundi has been caught in Season 9 of the Northern Territory’s Million Dollar Fish competition by Territorian Jack Daly. This is third $10,000 barra reeled in by Jack since the competition began in 2015, making him one of the luckiest winners to-date.

Jack, who hails from Nauiyu/Daly River, says his secret to reeling in three prize-tagged barra is consistency and he spends most of his nights fishing. He was out fishing at Daly River on Friday 1 December when he reeled in his lucrative 58cm barramundi sporting a red tag worth $10,000. Upon learning about Jack’s prize, his two kids have already drafted Christmas wish list.

Each time a fisho catches a $10,000 barra, they can donate an extra $1,000 to the Million Dollar Fish charity of their choice. James chose Riding for the Disabled Association Top End, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for people of all abilities in the greater Darwin area, to engage in equestrian-related activities including horse care and riding programs.

The competition guarantees a millionaire this season and Season 9 will run till 31 March 2024. 12 barra worth a million and 92 barra worth $10,000 still swimming in the Top End’s pristine waters waiting to be caught.  So far, the competition has given away $80,000 in prize money.

Quotes from $10k winner, Jack Daly:

  • “I thought I’d never catch any this year but the water came up a little bit and then started dropping again and then I caught this on the crossing.
  • “I go fishing nearly every night, or when I get the chance to if I’m not working at night, I’ll go fishing. That’s just something I love doing every day or every night anyway when it’s nice and cool.
  • “The key is consistency. If you keep fishing every night, anything could happen, you know? That’s all it takes just a bit of time fishing at night or day, and you’ll never know you’ll get a red tag.”
