Sunday 18 April saw over 300 keen anglers attend the 5th Murray River Codference. Held at Shepparton , the Conference is an annual event that has been going from strength to strength and was ‘sold out’ well before the day!

A great line-up of speakers enthralled the crowd and presented on a range of topics including cod fishing tips, the  potential and benefits of cod /angling tourism to Victoria, the excitement and challenge of cod fishing,  updates on fisheries management, updates on the new Arcadia hatchery, crown land access, cod diets, Victorian Fisheries Authority compliance activities and the latest and greatest in cod fishing gear.

Chef prepared Murray cod was on the menu for lunch and the delegates were provide with a range of cod dishes which was an absolute highlight.  A Victorian lure maker ‘mini-expo’ in the foyer also gave the attendees lots to look and talk about at the breaks.

This was VFA’s fifth Codference and it has become a real highlight in many angler’s calendar. To get 300 plus people to attend an all-day conference in these challenging COVID-19 times demonstrates the interest of anglers in our native fish. The Codference is an important event for VFA and native fish anglers and we all look forward to the next one.
