Our recent reports on gigantic flathead being caught on the NSW south coast has resulted in a number of readers contacting us with stories and photos of their own mega-flattie successes. The latest instalment comes from Fisho reader Doug Malone who, as you’ll read, wasn’t on his Pat Malone when it came to scoring a giant dusky. Nice work!In our featured video today, the fellers involved have experienced their second notable encounter in recent times with an aggressive great white shark off Adelaide. Might have to stop rust-proofing the boat with tuna oil boys… In sad news this week, legendary saltwater fly fishing pioneer Max Garth has died at 83. Garth was a prominent figure in the exciting period of Australian sportfishing in the ’70s and ’80s, having forged a reputation for his dogged and often successful efforts targeting gamefish on fly from rugged rock ledges, most notably in WA. The staff of Fishing World extends its sympathies to the Garth family. The CEO of the Australian Fishing Trade Association, Allan Hansard, has been heavily involved in fighting for Australian anglers’ rights over the past 18 months. In recognition of his efforts, UK-based publication Angling International has featured an article on Hansard in its latest issue. Read it here. In other news, fishos in South Australia are being asked to be involved in a fishing survey starting next month. Fisho’s NT correspondent Peter Zeroni has penned a great yarn for you today about a recent jigging trip off Darwin. As you’ll see in Pete’s story, some fishos are using some pretty weird and wonderful gear in the Top End these days… And in comp news, Fishing World had a team competing at last weekend’s Lake Windamere Golden Classic. Fisho team member Scott Brown reports on how things panned out in what sounds like a very enjoyable comp. Still on competitive fishing, the annual Jervis Bay White Sands game fishing tournament is on at the end of the month.
