Len Beadell explored and surveyed this part of the Gunbarrel Highway in 1958, a relatively modern exploration but one that still required great skill and courage. The section shown on this Westprint map links with the canning Stock Route and Tanami Track, a circular route popular with many four-wheel-drive travellers.

Several explorations took place into this area during the 19th century. At least one explorer, Alfred Gibson, died and others ere lucky to escape with their lives. Brief information is included and routes of these explorations are also shown.

The Gunbarrel Highway is featured because of its popularity but the Great Central Road and several inter-connecting tracks within the Gibson Desert are also shown.
