A healthy and productive marine estate is critical to the wellbeing and prosperity of NSW through the environmental, social, cultural, and economic benefits it brings.

Yet, we face many threats to the health and sustainability of the marine estate and competing uses for the benefits it provides.

We’re pleased to announce the release of the new primary schools Marine Estate Agents program that aims to assist the community and younger generations build their knowledge, skills and motivation to be environmental custodians of the marine estate, use the marine estate in a safe and sustainable way and understand the physical and mental health benefits of connecting with nature.

By focusing on sustainable use and building awareness of threats to the marine estate, the program aims to build custodianship of this valuable natural resource.

Tailored for primary school years 1-6, it aligns with NSW syllabus subjects like Human Society and its Environment (Geography) and Science, addressing cross-curriculum priorities such as Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures and Histories.

It’s free for schools, funded by the NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy and a key output of the NSW Marine Estate Education Strategy.
