The wharves are well known as great fishing locations, but these are a shared facility with a primary function to allow commuters to safely use ferries as transport to and from work.
DPI has received recent complaints from ferry staff and commuters of inappropriate behaviour and rubbish left behind by an irresponsible few. Let’s respect our privileged access to these wharves.
NSW Police are conducting regular patrols around the ferry wharves and heavy penalties can apply if you are caught doing the wrong thing.
NSW DPI Fisheries thanks those fishers doing the right thing and urges fishers to act responsibly while fishing Sydney’s ferry wharves by following these steps:
???? Clear lines from the water and move out of the way when ferries approach.
???? Keep knives stowed out of sight while not in use
???? Take all your rubbish with you even if it is not yours and clean any bait and fish mess from the wharf surface.
???? Do not use the ferry commuter seating to store all your tackle.
???? Do not use any gas burners or cookers.
???? Do not shine torches or other lights toward ferries when they approach.
???? Be respectful of other wharf users and do not block access.
???? Be considerate of nearby residents and keep the noise down, especially after 10pm.
Please encourage your fishing mates to behave responsibly. Report suspicious fishing activity to the Fishers Watch Phoneline on 1800 043 536 and contact NSW Police to report any anti-social behaviour. Tight lines everyone!
