I’m getting in touch from Season 9 of Northern Territory’s richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish, to let you know the second $10k fish has been caught.
NT fisho Andrew Russell has found himself $10,000 richer after reeling in a 73cm tagged barra at Woods Inlet, just five kilometres away from Cullen Bay where it was released.
Each time a tagged fish is caught, the winner gets to donate an extra $1,000 to a Million Dollar Fish charity of their choice and Andrew chose Cancer Council NT. The donation will go directly towards the charity’s nurse-led oncology clinics and services for Territory cancer patients.
Quotes from winner Andrew Russell:
- “I was out on my boat with my neighbour. He’s also called Andrew and we’re always fishing together.
- “We were on the last two casts of the day when I snagged a barra and saw the tag. I was pretty nervous reeling the fish in, but lucky for me I landed it.
- “I’m going to split the cash with Andrew and get out onto the water as soon as possible to hopefully catch one of the 11 fish eligible for a million dollars out there.”
Season 9 will run till 31 March 2024, with 11 barra worth a million and 98 barra worth $10,000 still swimming in the Territory’s pristine waters waiting to be caught.
The first $10,000 barra was caught off the rocks at Stokes Hill Wharf by Zain Lopez on 1 October, just hours after Season 9 began.
The competition promises a million dollars to a lucky angler this year thanks to a number of initiatives that will be introduced throughout the season.
