The Old Ghan – Heritage Trail
Construction on the railway line began in 1877. When in 1929, the railway finally reached Alice Springs it became known as ‘The Ghan’. The line now has a new route, but many relics remain. Our journey traces the history of the Old Ghan Heritage Trail from Port Augusta to Alice Springs. We visit Quorn, Farina, Marree, William Creek and Odonadatta with side trips to Chambers Pillar and the Lambert Centre of Australia.
