The 2012 Cod Classic at picturesque Mulwala has been run and won and a few AFN staff members headed down for their first attempt at snaring a big greenback from the lake.

Team Yak Fisher came to fruition a month or two earlier and thanks to the organisational skills of Andrew from Yak Gear a good number of yakkers came to join in. Approximately 30 kayakers met up at Kieffen’s Reserve on Friday evening and set up camp before heading over to the local footy club for the briefing where thousands of budding anglers caught up for a briefing, some timely advice from the experts as well as a good showing of exhibitors who were there to supply lures and bait.

While Team Yakfisher certainly didn’t break any records, we sure had a ball giving it a crack. It was a tough bite and between us we only managed about 10 cod all ranging from 40 – 65 cm. Andy Teale from AFN also managed a nice yella at 43 cm.

The weigh stations all suggested that the cod weighed in on day one all came in very early and then it went a little quiet by mid-morning.

Saturday night was spent socialising and Team Yak Fisher won ‘Best represented Team’ for the weekend so that was a great achievement and credit to everyone who made the trek from far and wide.

Sunday morning was a bit of a blow out and we didn’t end up getting out on the water. After a relatively late night on Saturday and unfavourable weather conditions we spent the morning packing up and reminiscing on the good times shared over the weekend. Stay tuned for a full report soon.
